Since 1992, Creativity Festivity has served as our community’s annual celebration of learning through the arts.  The event showcases children’s imaginative work in art, theatre, poetry and music, and this year’s theme is Art Connects the World.

Throughout the two week celebration, DAC hosts events and opportunities for local youth to share their work with the greater arts community in Durango.  Activities during Creativity Festivity include an exhibit featuring work of k-12th grade students in the Barbara Conrad Gallery, a writing contest for 4th and 5th grades, Durango High School’s beloved annual poetry slam and a special youth theatre production of The Grunch.

Check out the 2016 Creativity Festivity celebration here.

DAC is pleased to coordinate Creativity Festivity for the community to experience and access at free or very low cost admissions thanks to the generous funding of our community partners: Coca-Cola of Durango-Farmington, Durango School District 9R, Durango Friends of the ArtsDurango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Rail Events, Inc. and family funds of the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado.

  • Winner of the 2012 Children’s Musical Theatre Festival, presented by The Broadway Workshop
Inspired by “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” THE GRUNCH tells the story of Ruby Grunch, a grumpy 6th grader who always feels like an outsider. When the entire school gets excited about the annual school musical, she comes up with a perfect plan to ruin it for everyone; she’ll steal the sets, costumes and lights the night before it opens. Will the Drama club get shut down because of a bad review, or will the spirit of theatre prevail? With music reminiscent of other famous Broadway songs, this show will have you bouncing in your seat and bring out the inner theatre geek in everyone!
THE GRUNCH is produced by the DAC Applause youth performing arts program, grades 3rd-10th grades. With a pre-show performed by the Wee-Glee (4-6 yr olds) and Confetti (1st and 2nd grade) classes.
