Emily Simpson Grandt, DAC Applause Director

Emily recently transitioned to DAC Applause Director, after spending two years as a teacher and choreographer for the program.  Growing up in Kansas City, MO, Emily was involved with the children’s theater group, Camellot Academy, where she first experienced musical theater. She also studied ballet, tap and jazz, and participated in school plays and musicals before formally studying dance at the University of Kansas.  She served as teacher and later school director of the Kansas City Ballet, which deepened her love for the stage and performance. Since relocating to Durango, Emily has established a thriving ballet school of her own, San Juan Ballet (which operates out of the Dorothy Bickel Dance Studio at DAC), and serves as rehearsal assistant for the State Street Ballet Company’s The Nutcracker, which comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on tour each December.

As DAC Applause Director, Emily oversees the year-round youth performing arts program for ages 4-18, including faculty, performance, summer camps and student services.  We are thrilled to have Emily at the helm of DAC Applause and can’t wait for you to meet her!
