Featured Events at the DAC Diamond Circle Melodrama ENCORE! During the summer months of June, July, and August you can see them perform a 50's showcase every MONDAY night at 7pm on the patio outside Cold Stone Ice Cream Shop and Starbucks. Come have some fun, get up and dance, and let them take you back to the pass with "Great Pretender", "Mary Lou", "Rockin' Robin", "Rock this Town", "Leader of the Pack" and many more. Great for ALL ages. Arts Library Nationally/internationally recognized Book Artist, Painter, and Printmaker Laura Wait will be offering a two day class at the Durango Arts Center on August 2 and 3, 2008. The class is entitled IMAGE AND STRUCTURE OF ARTISTS BOOKS and will utilize an intuitive approach, employing multiple ways to create rich, colored images, and the possibility of incorporating text. A unique codex format book with painted pages will be created with an emphasis on intuition and the hand, rather than computer generated imagery. Drawing inspiration from paste paper techniques, we will create painted or decorated pages and enhance them with stencils and stamps. Handwriting or text is optional. We will bind the pages together in a drum leaf binding, and excellent structure for artists, which can be made without the use of expensive equipment. This binding is made of a series of single, one-sided pages. Covers will be painted in order to include them as an integral part of the process. Our ultimate goal will be the creation of a unique work of art in book form. Students may bring art projects to discuss for binding adaptations using these structures. The workshop will run from 9:30-5 both days. Cost is $125 for the tuition (deposit check of $50 payable to Durango Arts Center to secure your place---send to Louise Grunewald PO Box 720 Durango, CO 81302). There will be an additional $30 materials fee which will be paid to Laura at the workshop. A regional book show will be opening in the Art Library of the DAC, so this is a great opportunity to also attend the artists reception there on Friday evening, August 1.
