DAC Featured Artist for August:
Pat Senecal
Pat Senecal, Ruby, Pastel
Having discovered pastel painting in the last seven years, this is now my medium of choice as it allows the depth of color that is so vibrant in the natural world. Pastel provides direct contact from my brain, down my arm to the paper, giving
me the feeling of being inside the subject I am painting, finding it’s soul. I take my inspiration from eclectic sources, using the softer edges of the Impressionists as well as the bold abstraction of
modern portrait painters like Warhohl. Color is used freely, not in imitation of reality but in order to capture the mood of a scene or a characteristic of a person or animal. Subjects vary, but I particularly enjoy the challenge of human and
pet portraiture.
My work is displayed in medical, government, educational, event, retail and residential settings throughout the United States. Visit my website at www.patsenecal.com.
