NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SELECTED: Greetings to all. My name is McCarson Jones, and I am your new executive director of the Durango Art Center. On May 27, I began at the Durango Art Center fulltime. For several weeks I was able to spend some one-on-one time with Karen Thompson, your interim E.D. I have been educated on the facility, I have received up-to-date information on current events, witnessed the construction on the Melodrama and I have reviewed our DRAFT budget. This time with Karen has been much appreciated! Thank you! I know that many of you are probably wondering who I am. I welcome you all to stop by the DAC and introduce yourself! I want to meet you and get to know you as a DAC member, sponsor, volunteer, donor, committee and community member. I know that Karen initiated a members questionnaire, and I have seen them. I will be reviewing each one and getting back to you with more questions and other feedback. Your remarks as a member are extremely valuable. Your passion for the arts and your insight as to how the arts in our community will evolve will be a catalyst for how we all move forward. I have questions for you! How many of you have ever seen all of the Arts Center? Not just the gallery and the shop or just the theater? What about back stage, upstairs? How many of you know that we have an Arts Library? Do you use it? What about events at the Art Centerdo you ever rent space to hold an exhibit, and what about work functions and holiday parties? The Art Center is a great space, and I welcome you to come by and get a tour. Bring your kiddos to enjoy the Paint Bar or enroll your children in one of the performing arts programs. What about buying tickets for our locals Melodrama show for June 12? Bring your friends and family. Remember to pick up a few brochures at the DAC and pass them out to friends. Community awareness is key to a successful Durango Art Center! As the new E.D., I hope to raise membership, raise awareness, raise funds, raise ticket sales and raise spirits in the art community. The Center is here for all of us. We should use it as much as we can and move forward with all of our artistic endeavors! With that said, I want to take a moment and say thank you. Cheers to all of you who put such time and effort into searching for an executive director. The search committee, DAC employees, DAC board of directors, the citizens group and the BallantinesI enjoyed meeting all of you and hope that we will continue to develop a strong relationship with each other. To the future of DAC! Lets make it a great one!
