Jason Lythgoe, Applause Program Director
As the DAC Applause Director, Jason draws from a long history in theatre, beginning at the young age of 7, when he began his life in theatre with an appearance in Oliver and into middle and high school studying theatre, eventually finding himself in Theatre Arts/ Technical Theatre at California State Fullerton and then went on to help start multiple small storefront theatre companies in Orange and LA counties. He relocated to Colorado Springs six years ago and is currently the head theatre mentor at the Colorado Springs Conservatory. He is proud to have been honored with many regional and local theatre nominations and awards including Best of the Springs, The Orange County Weekly Awards, American College Theatre Festival, Pikes Peak Arts Council Awards, and Broadway World. Some of his favorite roles over the years include Peter Pan (Captain HooK), Forever Plaid (Sparky), A Christmas Story (Ralph/Narrator ), The Fantastiks (El Gallo), Assassins (Booth), Troilus and Cressida (Troilus), Wizard of Oz (Scarecrow). When not onstage or in rehearsals, Jason enjoys spending time outdoors geocaching, traveling, adding to his vinylmation collection, being a long time movie buff, an L.A. Kings fanatic, and sipping on nice local Colorado craft beer.
Jason came to Durango in summer 2015 to perform for the Henry Strater Theatre’s production of Guitar Strings, a Cowboy, and a Lost Peacock, and fell in love with the community. A veteran of over 100 theatrical productions, his background in youth theatre includes performing as a young actor, acting in shows for younger audiences and teaching and directing kids. Jason’s ultimate goal is to instill his love of being onstage, by sharing the craft of theatre through teaching and performance.
