Exploring the Surface: Mixed Media Drawing on Paper
Saturday March 7 – Sunday, March 8, 2015
Unleash the playful power of improvisation: experiment with combining a wide variety of both wet and dry medias, both black/white and color, as well as waxes and gilding on a variety of papers. The surfaces of papers made with different fibers that are beaten, formed and dried differently offer unique interaction with drawing media and a rich diversity of visual effects. Using adapted contemporary Japanese woodblock techniques, learn how to use external sizing to manipulate the absorbency of watercolor or inks. Expand and enrich your drawing surface through layering textures and mark-making, paper treatment and surface embellishment.
