Festival Snapshot

  • Juried art festival featuring fine art and craft from across the US (10% regional artists).
  • Audience:  2016 welcomed 7,649 visitors to the downtown corridor, an increase over 6,500 visitors in 2015.
  • Premier Sponsor:  1st Southwest Bank
  • Durango Arts Center 2017 Festival Event Goal: $47,000 = artist application fees/booth fees/business in-kind and financial sponsorships (artists retain 100% of their sales)
  • Visitors represented 27 states, the largest concentration of visitors were from new Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, California, Utah and Nebraska. 
    • Using the Business Improvement District’s computation formula, in 2016, $826,000 was conservatively infused in the local economy over the two-day Festival, with an additional $42,000 from non-area Festival artists who required lodging/food for a minimum of three nights/four days.
  • Family and pet-friendly community event
  • Local live entertainment is featured on the Festival stage throughout the weekend.

Public Information

The 23rd annual Durango Autumn Arts Festival, will occur Saturday and Sunday, September 16th & 17th 2017. This event does require a Special Activities Permit for the closure of East 2nd Avenue between College Drive and 9th Street from 3AM on Saturday, September 16th to 8PM Sunday, September 17th. This segment of East 2nd Avenue and the intersections at 7th Street, and 8th Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic. 7th and 8th Streets will be closed at the alleys to the east and west of East 2nd Avenue. Northbound traffic from College Drive, will not be able to access East 2nd Avenue. Southbound traffic on East 2nd Avenue will be detoured at 9th Street, to use either 3rd Avenue, or Main Avenue. No Parking signs will be posted the Thursday before the event to alert public and private parking of the closure. The City Parking Lots impacted by this closure, are located on East 2nd Avenue between 9th and 8th Streets (North of Durango Arts Center), 8th and 7th Streets (South of Ecosphere), and the lot on the corner of 7th Street and 2nd Avenue.
