CO150 Film Festival: City Slickers

Saturday, August 29, 2026

ABOUT THIS EVENT

The film showing is free, although we kindly request a $10 donation per person to support the Durango Arts Center. Donations will also be accepted at the door.

Colorado turns 150 this year — and we’re marking it with the biggest cinematic celebration the state has ever seen. 150 films. 150 screenings. Historic venues from the mountains to the plains. Watched together, in person, the way movies are meant to be seen. The CO150 Film Festival is a collection of the best cinema ever made in Colorado, about Colorado, or by Coloradans — past and present. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Join us for another film showing in the Colorado 150 Film Festival collection – City Slickers!

Facing the doldrums of aging and unhappy marriages, Mitch, Phil, and Ed seek to reignite their masculinity by participating in a genuine Southwestern cattle drive. At the Stone Ranch, they are placed under the supervision of Curly (Jack Palance), a gruff, tough-talking trail boss. What begins as a macho escape from their urban responsibilities quickly turns into a test of survival and emotional reckoning. When the drive goes awry, leaving the city men responsible for the entire herd, they are forced to confront their fears of aging, bond as friends, and learn profound life lessons from Curly.
