Durango Youth Theater (DYT)

Unleash your Imagination

The Durango Youth Theatre (DYT) program provides a unique opportunity for kids to unleash their creativity and bring their imagination to life through movement, speech, storytelling, and character development. Our youth education programs correlate with local, state, and national education standards in Colorado and New Mexico.

Parent Volunteers

As parents, you have the pleasure of watching your child join DAC, make new friends and experience the excitement of being on stage. If you would like to join the fun, you may sign up to volunteer to work the front of the house or backstage during a show. Parents are encouraged to volunteer. Please email Jason Lythgoe to volunteer!

Policies & Procedures

If DAC needs to cancel:
The Durango Arts Center may cancel a class or workshop if minimum enrollment isn’t met. Once a class is underway, individual sessions may occasionally need to be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as inclement weather. If that happens, we’ll do our best to offer a make-up session. When needed, DAC may also bring in a substitute instructor to ensure classes continue as smoothly as possible.

If a student needs to cancel or doesn’t attend:
If you need to cancel your enrollment and would like a refund, please contact DAC at least 10 days before the class start date. With 10 days’ notice, we’ll refund your payment minus a 15% registration fee based on tuition. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer refunds for cancellations made within 10 days of the class or workshop start date. If you register within that 10-day window, your registration is non-refundable. We’re also unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for absences due to personal scheduling conflicts.

Please contact info@durangoarts.org for class cancellations.

Scholarships
The Durango Arts Center is proud to remove financial barriers to classes for all participants. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Executive Director Beth Lamberson Warren with questions: beth@durangoarts.org

The Durango Arts Center is able to offer year-round scholarship assistance thanks to the generosity of individuals and local foundations such as:

Scholarship applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are dispersed.
Youth in Big Brothers Big Sisters receive full tuition scholarships for art classes and Durango Youth Theater camps. To apply, please complete and submit the scholarship application form.

Payment Procedures
Scholarships cover tuition only. Depending on the class, you may still be responsible for any remaining tuition balance, the required membership fee, and occasionally the cost of supplies. Once you’re notified, please be sure to finalize your registration and pay any remaining balance within one week so we can hold your spot. If we don’t receive payment within that time, the scholarship and class space may be offered to another student.
