ABOUT THIS EVENT

Raven Narratives Story Slam: Colorado

Colorado.

Maybe it’s the place you were born.
Maybe it’s the place you chose.
Maybe you came here for a season…and somehow never left.

Maybe your Colorado story involves a dirt road, a snowstorm, a neighbor, a bear, a breakup, a river, a wildfire, a terrible first date, a small-town misunderstanding, or the moment you realized: Oh. I live here now.

No prepared performers. No scripts. No memorized monologues.

We’ll draw names from the audience, and those brave souls will step up and tell a true, personal story, off the cuff, inspired by our theme:

COLORADO.

Need to get the story wheels turning?

Think about…

🏔️ A time Colorado completely humbled you.
🚙 A road trip, mountain pass, dirt road or vehicle disaster you’ll never forget.
❄️ The storm you definitely underestimated.
🌲 A moment in the wild when things did NOT go according to plan.
🏡 The story of how you ended up here—or why you stayed.
❤️ Someone you met in Colorado who changed your life.
😂 Your most ridiculous only-in-Colorado moment.
🔥 A time this landscape frightened you, healed you, surprised you or broke your heart.
🤠 The moment you realized you had become a Colorado person.
🌄 Or simply: What is the Colorado story you find yourself telling over and over again?

Bring that one.

Raven stories are true. They’re personal. They have a beginning, middle and end. And they happened to YOU.

Funny, tender, strange, heartbreaking, embarrassing, beautiful—we want the stories that make a room full of strangers lean in.

Come tell one. Come hear one. Come celebrate this strange, beautiful place we call Colorado.

There are lots of ways to participate — no single “right” way to tell your story. This time around we are offering you 3 OPTIONS for telling your story:

🎤 Tell a story live on stage
Share a true, personal story told off-the-cuff in classic Raven Narratives style. If it’s honest and rooted in lived experience, it’s perfect.

📄 Submit a written story (stage-optional!)
Prefer to let your words do the talking? Submit a one-page, typed story (12-point font) inspired by COLORADO a day prior to the event date. Selected stories may be read aloud from the stage by a host or volunteer reader.
📧 Send submissions to ravennarratives@gmail.com

🖋️ Write a haiku the night of the event
Feeling inspired in the moment? Audience members are invited to submit Colorado-themed haikus during the event. A few will be selected and shared aloud—tiny stories with big impact.

Whether you take the mic, send your story ahead of time, or offer a handful of well-chosen syllables, Raven Narratives is a warm, welcoming space to explore how luck moves through our lives — and to listen deeply to one another.

Storytelling Guidelines:

  • Stories must be told in the first person
  • Stories must be true, as told from that person’s perspective
  • No soapboxing or political statements
  • No rants raves or explicit endorsements
  • Stories must be told in up to 6 minutes
  • Stories should relate meaningfully to the theme of COLORADO
  • Enjoy an evening of poignant and powerful storytelling!
