ABOUT THIS EVENT

Raven Narratives Story Slam: Luck

What is luck, really? A blessing, a curse, a coincidence, a twist of fate, a near miss, a perfect mistake? Join Raven Narratives for a story slam exploring the many shapes luck can take—through true stories that are funny, tender, strange, heartbreaking, or quietly miraculous.

Stories around Luck might include (but are definitely not limited to):
🍀 Good luck and unexpected wins
🪨 Bad luck and spectacular flops
🔮 Fate, destiny, or chance encounters
🧩 Out-of-the-box interpretations—moments that only felt lucky (or unlucky) in hindsight
⏳ Close calls, second chances, wrong turns, or right-time/wrong-time stories
✨ The luck you didn’t recognize until much later

There are lots of ways to participate — no single “right” way to tell your story. This time around we are offering you 3 OPTIONS for telling your story:

🎤 Tell a story live on stage
Share a true, personal story told off-the-cuff in classic Raven Narratives style. If it’s honest and rooted in lived experience, it’s perfect.

📄 Submit a written story (stage-optional!)
Prefer to let your words do the talking? Submit a one-page, typed story (12-point font) inspired by Luck. Selected stories may be read aloud from the stage by a host or volunteer reader.
📧 Send submissions to ravennarratives@gmail.com

🖋️ Write a haiku the night of the event
Feeling inspired in the moment? Audience members are invited to submit Luck-themed haikus during the event. A few will be selected and shared aloud—tiny stories with big impact.

Whether you take the mic, send your story ahead of time, or offer a handful of well-chosen syllables, Raven Narratives is a warm, welcoming space to explore how luck moves through our lives — and to listen deeply to one another.

Come brave. Come curious. Come lucky.

Storytelling Guidelines:

  • Stories must be told in the first person
  • Stories must be true, as told from that person’s perspective
  • No soapboxing or political statements
  • No rants raves or explicit endorsements
  • Stories must be told in up to 6 minutes
  • Stories should relate meaningfully to the theme of LUCK
  • Enjoy an evening of poignant and powerful storytelling!
